Tempsens Instruments IPO Snapshot

Tempsens Instruments (India) IPO is a Book Built Offer of ₹650.00 crore, comprising a Fresh Issue and an Offer for Sale (OFS).

What Does Tempsens Instruments Do?

Tempsens Instruments is a specialised industrial engineering and instrumentation company serving applications where temperature measurement, heating and specialised cables are critical. Its products are used across metals and steel, petrochemicals, power, defence and nuclear, glass, plastics, automotive, pharmaceuticals and other manufacturing industries. The company operates 15 manufacturing units across India and overseas, supported by subsidiaries and joint ventures in the UAE, Germany, Poland, Indonesia and South Korea. It serves more than 3,800 customers across 80+ countries through its operations and 28 distributors. Exports contributed 28.5% of FY26 revenue, highlighting the growing importance of international markets.

Together, these product segments enable Tempsens to serve diverse industrial applications requiring accurate temperature measurement, thermal monitoring and electrical heating solutions.

Competitive Strengths

Tempsens has built a strong position in the specialised temperature sensing market, being India’s largest manufacturer of contact and non-contact temperature sensors by revenue, with around 10.5% market share in FY26. It is the only Indian manufacturer of non-contact temperature sensors, with approximately 21.3% market share in the segment. Its diversified product portfolio, strong R&D capabilities with 83 employees, customised solutions, and focus on indigenisation create high entry barriers. The company also benefits from backward-integrated manufacturing, digital traceability, and stringent quality control, supported by 15 manufacturing units globally. Customer concentration has improved, with the top 10 customers contributing only 18.6% of FY26 revenue.

Global Presence & Revenue Mix

Tempsens has developed a growing international presence supported by export sales, strategic alliances, joint ventures and subsidiaries across key markets. While India remains its largest revenue market, the company has steadily expanded its international business across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa & MENA, North America and South America. This geographic diversification provides access to new markets and reduces dependence on a single geography.

India’s contribution declined from 78.51% in FY24 to 71.48% in FY26, while Africa & MENA increased from 5.04% to 10.01%, indicating a gradual diversification of the company’s geographic revenue base.

Key Performance Indicators

Tempsens has delivered strong growth over FY24–FY26, with Revenue, EBITDA and PAT growing at CAGRs of 27.23%, 36.07% and 31.79%, respectively, while Adjusted PAT grew at a 35.27% CAGR.

Growth Strategies

Tempsens aims to build on its existing capabilities by expanding its product portfolio, strengthening international operations, and improving manufacturing efficiency. Its key growth initiatives include:

  • Drive New Product Development: Continue investing in R&D and technology collaborations to develop and commercialise products for evolving industrial applications.

  • Scale High-Growth Solutions: Increase focus on Process Heating, Conductor Solutions and Infrared Technology to capture opportunities in faster-growing product categories.

  • Expand International Markets: Strengthen overseas operations and increase exports by entering new markets and deepening relationships with international customers.

  • Pursue Organic & Inorganic Growth: Explore acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic opportunities alongside expansion of the existing business.

  • Improve Operational Efficiency: Enhance productivity through process optimisation, automation and better manufacturing practices.

  • Increase Manufacturing Capacity: Expand production capabilities to meet expected demand growth and improve execution across different business segments.

Valuation

At the upper price band of ₹300 per share, Tempsens Instruments is valued at approximately 35.88x FY26 P/E on a post-issue basis. The valuation reflects the company’s strong financial growth, market leadership in temperature sensing, diversified product portfolio, and expanding export business. The company also has no directly comparable listed Indian peer covering all three of its core business segments, making conventional peer-based valuation more difficult. However, the premium valuation also factors in expectations of continued growth, making future earnings growth, working-capital efficiency and execution across its expansion plans are important parameters to monitor.

GMP & Subscription Status

As of Day 1 (3.00 PM), the IPO has received a strong overall subscription of 4.70x, indicating healthy investor interest. Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) showed the strongest participation with 9.43x subscription. Retail Investors also recorded a strong 5.33x subscription, while QIBs, excluding Anchor Investors, witnessed only 0.03x subscription, indicating limited institutional participation at this stage. The GMP of ₹232, representing a strong 77.33% premium, indicates robust grey-market sentiment and significantly positive listing expectations. Overall, the healthy subscription across NII and Retail categories, combined with the strong GMP, points towards a highly positive market trend and strong investor sentiment.

Key Risks

Despite its leadership, the business carries several important risks.

  • High Project/OEM Dependence: The company is significantly dependent on its projects/OEM business, which contributed 67.60% (~298 cr) of revenue from operations in FY26. This concentration exposes the business to fluctuations in project orders, OEM demand, and execution cycles, where any adverse change could materially impact revenue growth, profitability, and cash flows.
  • End-Industry Concentration: Metal and petrochemical industries contributed 41.13% of FY26 revenue, exposing the company to demand fluctuations and adverse developments in these sectors.
  • Exposure to Metals & Petrochemical Sectors: Metals and petrochemical sectors contributed 41.1% of FY26 revenue, exposing the company to cyclical demand and capex trends in these industries.
  • Raw Material Price Volatility: Dependence on copper, nickel, stainless steel, precious metals and insulation materials exposes margins to price fluctuations, supply shortages, and supply-chain disruptions.
  • Manufacturing Concentration Risk: A majority of manufacturing facilities are concentrated in Udaipur, Rajasthan, making operations vulnerable to disruptions from natural disasters, infrastructure, labour, or regulatory issues.
  • Working Capital Intensive: The company had 92 inventory days and 70 receivable days in FY26, resulting in higher working capital requirements and potential cash-flow pressure.

Conclusion

Tempsens Instruments combines specialised products, category leadership, strong revenue growth, international expansion and high entry barriers. Its financial performance has improved significantly over FY24–FY26, while its business mix has expanded across products and geographies. However, the key factors to watch after the IPO will be working-capital efficiency, capacity utilisation, Project/OEM order growth, export expansion and the company’s ability to convert revenue growth into sustainable cash generation.
